Meteora is one of the most extraordinary places in the world. Towering rock formations — some reaching 400 meters — cradle monasteries built by monks who hauled themselves up in nets. The landscape has a quality of deep time that changes how you work.
Working with clay here is different. The stone around you reminds you that material takes its own time. Raku firing outdoors under these formations is something that stays with you.
The program is based in Kastraki village — small, walkable, right at the base of the rocks. Workshops, guesthouse, restaurants, and the world's most extraordinary views all within minutes of each other.
Each artist receives 10kg of stoneware clay. The techniques are collaboratively developed in the workshop — not prescribed.
Outdoor gas kiln firing using horsehair, feathers, and flammable materials on white or colored terra sigillata. The recipes are developed collaboratively. Results are unpredictable, beautiful, and unrepeatable.
Each artist creates two to four objects from the stoneware clay. Objects not subjected to Raku are fired in the electric kiln — allowing more controlled surfaces and glazes alongside the spontaneous results of Raku.
Using olive ash, porcelain, and tree ashes collected from heating sources each winter. Bisque firing first, then a second firing incorporating glass mixtures at 1260°C. Unique surface textures impossible elsewhere.
Workshop hours: 09:00–15:00 on weekdays. Maro and Zozo are present throughout. The 70sqm workshop is fully equipped — all clay, tools, kilns, and ceramic machinery are provided. You focus on the work.
Vol.5 (March 9–23, 2026) is fully booked. Contact us to join the waitlist for Vol.6 — interest is confirmed quickly and we respond personally.

"It was an incredible experience. Learning so much from Maro and Zozo, talented artists from around the world. I am so grateful for this unique opportunity to spend time in Kastraki — see the amazing rocks of Meteora. Thank you for the amazing hospitality, knowledge and friendship."
"The residency exceeded my expectations. It wasn't only about ceramics, it was also about artistic exchange and culture. Sharing the workspace with so many artists was beautiful. The stories, the culture. I am for sure a better person now. Meteora is a very special place."
"My time at Studio Theodorou was transformational — it pushed me to think about my art in new ways. Working alongside Maro I learned about Raku firings, ash glaze, and high-fire clays. I'm leaving this residency with an expanded network of artists from around the world."
The program welcomes ceramicists and sculptors of all levels — emerging to established. What matters is genuine interest in working with clay and openness to learning techniques you may not have tried before. Maro and Zozo adapt their guidance to each artist's level and approach.
All clay, tools, and kiln machinery are provided. Bring any specialized tools or personal items you prefer working with, but the workshop is fully equipped. Comfortable work clothing and shoes for the studio environment.
Your work is yours to take home. One representative piece from each artist joins the Eutopia Collection after the exhibition. All works are displayed in the group exhibition at the Geological Museum during the final days of the program.
